An Evening with Frank Legend

Decorative Imgae

Location: Jundt Art Museum, Chancellor's Room
Cost: Free
Seating Type: General Admission

"An Evening with Frank Legend" is about why we create art, what we might expect from art and artists and whether the risks to create art are worth the costs.

"An Evening with Frank Legend" unfolds as a conversation between the artist Frank Legend, and the art critic, Michelle Greer. After years of painting, Frank's work has finally received critical attention. Now, he must meet a public. Frank is cagey, independent, and tries to distract from the conversation that focuses on his life and achievements, but Michelle's candor about her own efforts to become an artist may open him.

"An Evening with Frank Legend" is a staged reading of a new play by Damon Falke and features actors Barry Brathovde and Bonni Dichone. It is directed by Charles M Pepiton, Professor of Theatre & Dance and Robert K. and Ann J. Powers Chair of the Humanities. The event is co-produced by Square Top Theatre. A conversation with the creative team will follow the performance.

"Evil exists only when it is known. Adam and Eve were public in their fall. To sin in private is not to sin at all." - Tartuffe

Moliere's classic satire about a fraudulent, zealous intruder was denounced on its first performance as a sacrilegious outrage and banned from further public view. This hilarious and irreverent whirlwind of lies, religious hypocrisy, and family feuds is one of theatre's most perfect comedic creations.

Written by Molière
Translated by Richard Wilbur
Directed by Blake Anthony Edwards
