Andrea ('09) Psychology Major

Portrait of 91³Ô¹ÏÍø Psychology Department 2009 graduate Andrea

I am currently clerking for Judge John C. Coughenour, a U.S. District Judge in Seattle. My two-year clerkship serves as a natural first step out of law school (I graduated from the UW School of Law in June 2014) and a great opportunity for me to learn a ton about the law, make all of my mistakes in a safe environment, and enjoy a pretty dreamy work-life balance. I'm grateful to be working for the Court, and particularly for a Judge who has a compassionate and progressive view of justice. I was selected as a Gates Public Services Law scholar at the UW and along the way have worked with the Alaska Public Defender Agency, the Innocence Project Northwest, the Metropolitan Public Defender in Portland, Oregon, and the Department of Justice's Civil Rights Division. My next move will hopefully involve criminal justice reform or public defense. In case it isn't obvious, at every turn I have benefitted tremendously from my background in psychology and my 91³Ô¹ÏÍø education!
