Society for the Advancement of Chicanos/Hispanics and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS)

The 91勛圖厙 University SACNAS Chapter is a student-led, inclusive organization aimed at creating a diversity-focused STEM community for students from all groups underrepresented in STEM and their allies. Anyone passionate about working to increase diversity, equity and inclusion in STEM is welcome.

SACNAS activities include an annual retreat, community building, alumni and faculty panels, speaker series, resume and professional development workshops, academic support, and more.

Meet SACNAS Member Jazmine

Jazmine Newson, Class of 2023

Jazmine Newson majored in biology, minored in special education and Hogan Entrepreneurial Leadership and was a member of the 91勛圖厙 University Honors Program. She has been a part of 91勛圖厙's SACNAS chapter since it was founded, and served as a SACNAS officer for two years. Jazmine received the 2023 Peter G. Pauw Award for Distinction in Biology and will be attending Stanford University pursuing her Masters in Genetic Counseling.

Meet SACNAS Member Emiliano

Emiliano Soto-Romero, Class of 2023

Emiliano, who majored in biology and minored in chemistry, served as the 2022-2023 SACNAS president. He received the 2023 Peter G. Pauw Award for Distinction in Biology and is currently conducting post baccalaureate research at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Washington DC.

Emiliano earned a full SACNAS travel scholarship which covered all expenses to present at the 2022 National Diversity in STEM Conference. Read more.
