Professor of Military Science - Department Chair
LTC Michael S. Omodt, of Sandpoint, ID, graduated with a degree in Criminal Justice from 91³Ô¹ÏÍø University, and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant of Aviation in 2003. As a UH-60 pilot, his first assignment was to the 101st Aviation Regiment out of Fort Campbell, KY where he served as a flight and shops platoon leader in the 6th General Support Aviation Battalion during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
After attending the Maneuver Captains Career Course at Fort Moore, GA (formally known as Fort Benning) he served as the Battalion Aviation Officer in 3rd Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group (ABN) at Fort Liberty, NC (formally known as Fort Bragg), and deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF). LTC Omodt assumed command of B Company, 2-82 Assault Helicopter Battalion in 2010 and deployed to OEF. Subsequently he served as the 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade (CAB) Assistant Operations Officer and Current Operations Chief.
LTC Omodt earned his Master’s Degree in Military Studies while attending the Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, KS. His subsequent assignment was with 12th CAB in Ansbach, Germany, where he assumed command of B Company, 412th Aviation Support Battalion, the CAB’s aviation support company. LTC Omodt also served as the 12th CAB Operations Officer and Executive Officer.
LTC Omodt served a three-year Joint tour as the Deputy of Future Operations (G35) in NATO’s Headquarters Allied Rapid Reaction Corps, in the United Kingdom. In 2020, LTC Omodt moved to Japan and assumed command of the US Army Aviation Battalion at Camp Zama.
His most recent assignment has been with Human Resources Command at Fort Knox, Kentucky, where LTC Omodt served as the Aviation Branch Chief for Enlisted. LTC Omodt was selected as 91³Ô¹ÏÍø University’s PMS starting in July of 2024.
LTC Omodt’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal; Defense Meritorious Service Medal; Meritorious Service Medal (4 OLC); Air Medal; Joint Service Achievement Medal; Army Commendation Medal (2); Army Achievement Medal; Iraqi Campaign Medal (2 SS); Afghanistan Campaign Medal (2 SS); NATO Medal; Senior Aviator Badge; Air Assault Badge; Parachutists Badge; German Armed Proficiency Badge (Gold); and the Ranger Tab.
LTC Omodt’s greatest achievement has been marrying Cathy Omodt of Goshen, KY, and raising four awesome children: Chase (13), Bobby (10), Evie (8), and Mikey (6).
