It is common for most job applications to require a resume, and often a cover letter as well. Depending on the position, you may be asked for additional documents such as a writing sample, portfolio of your work, or sample of projects you have worked on in the past. In this section, we'll focus primarily on resumes and cover letters, but we have more information about education-related documents such as CVs and Personal Statements on the Grad School section of our site. If you have questions on a document not covered on this page, feel free to reach out to us! Book an appointment on or send us an email.

Resumes

Resumes are a quick overview of your relevant skills and qualifications for a position. Studies vary on the length of time recruiters review these, but most suggest recruiters spend between 6 and 10 seconds looking at a resume that comes across their desk. In that space you want to make sure you make clear how your experiences are directly relevant to the position you are applying for.

Cover Letters
