Bar Certifications
Most state bar associations require law schools to certify applicants to some degree. Every state is different, so bar applicants should check the application process closely. Many states have a specific form that needs to be filled out by the Law School. All certifications and character and fitness requests, even if they indicate that they should be completed by the Dean, must go through the Law School Registrar’s Office.There is no fee for completing bar certifications or character and fitness requests for our graduates/students. However, some states require an official transcript for certification, for which there is a fee, and may be ordered here.
Please forward state-provided certification or character and fitness forms to the Registrar’s Office in person, or via email, fax or US Mail. If a state requires something other than a form or transcript, please email the Registrar’s Office with what items are needed, and the delivery information for those items. Certifications for graduates/former students are processed weekly, and we ask for at least three business days’ notice to complete requests. Completion of requests may take up to a week in high-volume periods, such as exams, registration, and grade processing.
Certifications cannot be completed until degrees are posted. Current students may turn in bar certification forms ahead of graduating and the Registrar’s Office will hold the form until all requirements are met.
Law School Applications for Bar Certification
91³Ô¹ÏÍø University School of Law graduates/students from 2002 to present can request a copy of their law school application for their own purposes, or for the purposes of bar certification. Law School applications are most often provided via US Mail or secure fax. Emailing of applications is discouraged, as applications contain sensitive, personal information, and electronic delivery is not a secure form of transmission. Electronic delivery may be requested, but individuals must include in their request that they understand the inherent risk involved in the protection of their information when choosing an electronic method of delivery. Please email requests for applications to the Registrar, and provide delivery information.91³Ô¹ÏÍø University School of Law graduates/former students from 2001 or earlier may request a letter from the Registrar’s Office that states that we no longer have those applications on file and cannot provide a copy to a requesting entity. Limited License Applications/Certifications
Any law school certification for a limited license, even if they indicate that they should be completed by the Dean, must go through the Law School Registrar’s Office.
For a Washington State Rule 9 license, qualified students may apply up to four weeks prior to completing their 60th credit. Rule 9 applications can be found on-line at . Applying students should email any disclosures such as traffic tickets or other citations to lawregistrar@gonzaga.edu. The Registrar’s Office will complete page 7 and email it back as a PDF file so you can include it in your packet to upload.
For all other states, paperwork should be delivered to the Registrar’s Office.

Degree or Enrollment Verifications
Any other forms of enrollment or degree verification should be forwarded to the Law School Registrar’s Office. Current students may request letters of enrollment for many purposes, including insurance, loan forbearance, or housing applications. Graduates/former students may request verifications of degrees, or previous attendance. Please forward any forms to the Registrar’s Office in person, or via email, fax or US Mail, or please email the Registrar’s Office with what items are needed for verification, and the delivery information for those items.
