Bachelor of Education: Community, Culture, and Language

In an increasing diverse society, teachers and professionals of all kinds need to have the knowledge and skills to support and value a multiplicity of perspectives. In this major, students will gain a sophisticated, practical understanding of the ways in which cultures, languages, and literacies support and challenge communities. This degree is designed to support those individuals who are pursuing careers in elementary and community education.

B.Ed. in Community, Culture, and Language is a 37-credit major with two concentrations.

Concentrations

Elementary Education:

  • For students who wish to work in K-8 public or private school settings
  • Students receive Washington State Elementary certification with English Language Learner and Reading endorsements
  • Site-based clinical experience
  • 120 hour TESOL Certificate (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages)
  • Cultural and linguistic immersion experiences
  • Hands-on advocacy projects
  • Interdisciplinary learning

Community Education:

  • For students who want to work in community education, with either children or adults
  • Hands-on opportunities with charities, non-governmental organizations, non-profit organizations, and organizations with a global focus
  • Complementary integration with 91勛圖厙’s Core
  • 120 hour TESOL Certificate (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages).
  • Interdisciplinary focus
