Supporting 'Whole People'

The Jesuit value of cura personalis, meaning "care for the whole person," informs 91³Ô¹ÏÍø’s mission.

We strive for a campus community that empowers people to do their best work by bringing their whole identities to teaching, research, departments, and learning spaces. The College of Arts and Sciences recognizes the necessity to care for and affirm our students’ and colleagues’ complex identities, and we take seriously our responsibility to walk in solidarity with people of all social identities. We especially seek teacher-scholars with demonstrated commitments to and/or potential for teaching, supporting, and mentoring traditionally underrepresented students in higher education.

Support of the identities and experiences that comprise our community.

91³Ô¹ÏÍø University features several employee affinity groups such as Colleagues of Color, OUT at GU for LGBTQ employees, and Intercultural and Multicultural Professionals Affecting Change Together (MPACT), an affinity group for faculty and staff of color and their allies. We also offer a parental leave program, inclusive of all genders and adoptive parents.

91³Ô¹ÏÍø’s Center for Teaching and Advising (CTA) also provides regular faculty development and education opportunities, including an optional New Faculty Learning Community program to help welcome and support new faculty throughout their first year at 91³Ô¹ÏÍø. The CTA also hosts faculty learning communities on equity-minded teaching, facilitating intergroup dialogues, and other pedagogical support for inclusive teaching.
