Privacy & FERPA (Federal Educational Rights and Privacy Act)
The Federal Educational rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) forbids schools from disclosing most confidential student information to non-school persons, including government agents. This federal law applies to all educational institutions and agencies that receive federal funding. FERPA seeks to protect all "educational records," which is a broadly defined term that includes any information related to students that is under the control of the school.
There are two categories of information that are exempt from FERPA protections. FERPA does not prevent official request for information that come in the form of court orders and it allows schools to share directory information that includes information that may be relevant to immigration status such as location of birth and your current address. You can find a list of items that 91³Ô¹ÏÍø has designated as directory information by clicking on the following link: Office of the Registrar FERPA info. You can restrict the release of any or all directory information.
A student may request that directory information not be released by completing the Request for Non-Disclosure form in person at the Office of the Registrar. Students will be required to complete the form and present their ID in person when submitting the form.
