Medical Insurance

Spring and Fall Semesters

Medical insurance is mandatory for each spring and fall semester for all F-1 and J-1 international students. Students are automatically enrolled in medical insurance whenever they register for classes, so no further actions are required on their part. 91³Ô¹ÏÍø works with LewerMark for the administration of the insurance process. The payment through student account will be 100% routed to LewerMark for the payment of their premium.

Summer

Insurance for the summer is optional. Those who are enrolled in summer classes are automatically covered by insurance. However, if a student is not registered for any summer classes and would like to have summer insurance coverage, they will need to opt in by submitting a Summer Insurance Request in the ISSS portal before the first day of summer classes. Dual Citizens, who are on this plan, must make a manual request to be enrolled by emailing ISSS@gonzaga.edu before the first day of summer classes.

Dual citizens who would like to be covered by the LewerMark plan must fill out a Dual Citizen Questionnaire Form (found in SharePoint). Upon evaluation and approval of this Form by LewerMark, the student can enroll in the plan. Please note that dual citizen insurance enrollment process is a manual process. Students must make a request to ISSS for insurance enrollment prior to the first day of each semester by emailing: ISSS@gonzaga.edu or by contacting their International Student Advisor.

Students who are graduating may be eligible for a 30-day extended coverage with an additional cost. Email LewerMark at enrollments@lewer.com to confirm eligibility and cost. This request must be made prior to the first day of the following semester. ISSS will add approved requests to the insurance enrollment process of the next immediate semester.

The first weeks of each semester is considered as billing window. Students’ insurance might appear as not valid as we finalize their insurance enrollment and payment, but they are covered so long as they intend to enroll at 91³Ô¹ÏÍø the following semester. If a student needs to seek medical care or get prescription during this billing window, an International Student Advisor can manually activate a student’s plan on the LewerMark website.

Insurance waiver request must be submitted two weeks prior to the first day of classes each fall semester. Once approved, the waiver is valid for a year.

Students who arrive in the spring must first submit a waiver request for the spring, then annually each fall.

Only students who meet the following criteria are eligible for a waiver by submitting a waiver request form.

  1. Their parent/spouse is employed by a United States-based company that provides Affordable Care Act (ACA) compliant coverage that they are covered under.
  2. They arrived in the United States with health insurance because they participate in a government/exchange student program, such as SACM.
  3. They are currently covered by their parent’s insurance plan from their home country. This plan must be valid in the United States and meet or exceed the LewerMark plan. An Emergency-only and/or travel plans will not be accepted.
