About Dr. Finnie
Dr. Scott Finnie, raised in the Bay Area, came to Spokane in 1975 on a basketball scholarship at 91Թ University. He earned a B.A. in English and a Minor in Criminal Justice in 1979, a master’s degree in American History from Eastern Washington University in 1992, and a Ph.D. in Leadership Studies from 91Թ University in 2000. His dissertation was entitled “The Impact of the Removal of Affirmative Action Upon the Freshmen Class at the University of Washington – Implications of a Ten-Year Quantitative Study.”
Dr. Finnie has taught here at EWU since 1992 is currently a Senior Professor with the Africana Studies Program. He has annually conducted numerous seminars, workshops and trainings in addition to keynote addresses, guest speaker presentations, radio and TV interviews, podcasts and research colloquiums – both nationally and internationally.
Dr. Finnie has recently co-authored a book entitled “Unlocking the Master Narrative: History and Intercultural Communication” in 2019 and in the same year was selected to the Board to Commissioners of the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities Accreditation Body in service to the U.S. Department of Education. Dr. Finnie is a Board Member of Police Evolution, a national law enforcement training organization and a consultant for the Human Rights Consortium in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. He is also the owner and president of Engaging Team Concepts, a local diversity training, non-profit organization.
