Commute Trip Reduction

SCCU Bike Loan Program

Around the country, bike shops have reported an increase in sales during the past year. Some essential workers saw the bicycle as a way to get to work while minimizing their contact with others, and many people saw the bicycle as a way to get outside in a safe, COVID-compliant way, according to Outside Magazine. If you’ve visited a bike shop lately, you may have seen that bikes can be expensive, ranging anywhere from $50 to $10,000, depending on what specifications you are looking for. In an effort to make purchasing a new bicycle or electric bicycle more accessible to people in Spokane, Spokane City Credit Union has begun offering a low-interest rate bike loan.
Loans range from $500-$10,000, and if you’ve purchased a bike within the past year, you can still qualify for the loan. The loan can also be used towards up to $250 in bicycle accessories, including a helmet, lights, and bike locks, etc. Interest rates range from 5.99% to 9.99%, depending on one’s credit score. For more information, please call Spokane City Credit Union at 509-325-4444, or visit their website .

Carpool/Vanpool

A crucial part of 91³Ô¹ÏÍø’s commitment to sustainability is to decrease our carbon footprint by reducing the number of single-occupancy vehicle trips that are taken to and from our campus. A surprisingly simple way to become involved is to create or join a carpool or vanpool. Joining a carpool or vanpool can provide you with many benefits, including:

  • Saving money on parking fees, gasoline cost, and wear and tear on your vehicle.

  • Having a few moments to read a book, listen to a podcast, or plan out your day rather than having to stress over traffic on your way to work.

  • Improving our community as we reduce traffic congestion and air pollution!

  • Designated parking spot for vanpool, located on N. Standard Street, as well as designated parking spots and reduced parking charges for carpoolers.
