Mentors

Our Mentors are GU students who love God and the outdoors, and through servant-leadership, they foster spiritual companionship in the teams of Explorers

Maddie Bohman

Hi, I'm Maddie! I’m from Glendale, California and am studying sociology and health equity. I love camping, astrophotography, painting, crossfit, pickleball, and the Dodgers! Fun fact: I've seen some of my favorite bands live, like The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Green Day, The Chicks, Norah Jones, and Hamilton!

 

David Giacobbi

Hi, my name is David and I am from Chandler, Arizona. I am a computer science major that loves anything and everything outdoors! In my free time, you can find me golfing, skiing, playing video games with friends, and hiking!! I also love to run and am an avid food enthusiast :)

 

Georgia LaPlante

Hi everyone! My name is Georgia LaPlante and I’m from Fort Collins, CO. I’m an incoming junior studying environmental science and leadership studies. I love skiing, canoeing, camping, yoga, and a good bagel, and my all-time favorite adventure song is The Sound of Sunshine by Michael Franti and Spearhead.

 

Rachel Muhr

Hi! My name is Rachel, and I am a rising senior at GU! I am studying English and Secondary Education with a minor in Spanish. I am from Littleton, CO, and some of my favorite outdoor activities include hiking and camping in the Rockies. A fun fact about me is that I have been to all 50 states. My family takes a lot of road trips to visit my extended family in Canada or travel to race at different racetracks throughout the States.

 

Gus Sablan III

I am from the beautiful island of Guam! I am majoring in Accounting with a concentration in Marketing and International Business. I love everything dealing with the sun. A fun fact about me is that I can climb a coconut tree, grab a coconut, husk it, and then eat it!

 

Caroline Slack

Hi! My name is Caroline Slack, and I am a rising Junior here at 91³Ô¹ÏÍø. I am originally from the Seattle area, but I now call Eastern Washington home. I am majoring in Broadcast Studies, and in my free time I like to drink coffee, listen to Taylor Swift, hang out with friends, watch NFL, and cheer on the Zags!

 

Henry Stone

Hello! My name is Henry Stone. I'm a senior computer science major with an applied math minor and I'm from Mustang, Oklahoma! I love spending my free time either making music, playing boardgames with my roommates, and reading!

 

Guardian

A GU Outdoors trip leader with wilderness medicine training and extensive backcountry experience, our Guardian is the Safety and Logistics Lead for Explore

Josh Campbell

I am from Colorado and am studying Human Physiology at 91³Ô¹ÏÍø. I have been a 91³Ô¹ÏÍø Outdoors Trip Leader for three years now and spend just about all of my free time outside. I love all outdoor sports but probably go rock climbing and whitewater rafting most often. I am also better at roasting s’mores than Ben is.

Our Catalyst creatively and strategically fosters outreach and sustainable growth as the Development Lead for 91³Ô¹ÏÍø Explore

Jack Haworth

I am from Palos Verdes, California and am majoring in Business Administration with a concentration in finance and a minor in the Hogan Entrepreneurial Leadership Program. A fun fact about me is I can sing every word to over 50 One Direction songs. My favorite outdoor activities include white water rafting, stand-up paddle boarding, boating, and fishing. But really I enjoy anything outside where I can get my hands dirty.

 

Navigator

As the Administrative Lead, our Navigator is responsible for planning, coordination, and communication with staff and partners of 91³Ô¹ÏÍø Explore

Kelly Bender

I am originally from Orange County, California and just graduated this year with a Bachelors in Special Education and Elementary Education. I am attending Boston College next year for my Masters of Arts in Theology and Ministry. I enjoy spending any free time outside especially hammocking and hiking. I loved being an Explore Mentor last year and am beyond excited to be back this year.

 

Chaplain

Our Chaplain's role is to support the Mentors through prayer, spiritual accompaniment, and training in pastoral and ministerial engagement

Fr. Gonza

I am a Jesuit priest from the Eastern Africa Province (AOR). I am originally from Uganda and my hometown is Kasese. I am a student at 91³Ô¹ÏÍø University completing a doctoral degree in Leadership Studies. I love playing lawn tennis and taking evening walks; I enjoy watching and cheering for our 91³Ô¹ÏÍø basketball teams. I also like going out for hikes and learning new things. For some strange reason, I have weird interests such as walking in the rain and getting lost.

 

Weaver

Our Weaver is the lead instructor and host who threads together the themes of Explore while narrating the shared story we co-create

Brenna Davis ()

Brenna lives in the Lake Erie Watershed, in Cleveland, OH, and currently serves as the director of integral ecology at the Ignatian Solidarity Network. She studied theology and Spanish at Boston College ('10) and served as a Jesuit Volunteer after graduation. Some of the hobbies she enjoys include knitting, trail running, hiking, and appreciating birds.

Our Director is responsible for visioneering, supporting the staff, and charting out the physical and spiritual landscapes of Explore

Ben Chu (Full Profile Here)

Ben was born in San Diego and spent his nomadic years around the Northwest (OR, AK, ID, WA) before making Spokane his home with his wife and three kids. He works in ecological spirituality at 91³Ô¹ÏÍø University, and he loves making coffee and food (especially Korean food) for others.
