Goals & Initiatives

The Office of the Vice President has several University-wide initiatives supporting the commitment and expression of our Catholic, Jesuit, humanistic mission.

Mission Centered Hiring

Contributing to the university’s Catholic, Jesuit, humanistic mission is an important part of all of our work at 91³Ô¹ÏÍø. Such contribution can be made in the following ways, for example, but is not limited to them.

  • How will each of our teaching and scholarship utilize Ignatian/Jesuit pedagogical methods (particularly the Ignatian Pedagogical Paradigm of context, experience, reflection, action, and evaluation) and values of the Jesuit charism such as:
    • cura personalis — the development of the whole person in mind, body, and spirit.
    • reflection and discernment—to take the time and space to consider the events of our lives and how we ought to learn from them, to be open to God’s spirit in the practice of decision making.
    • “finding God in all things,”— to seek and find the divine in all things, in all peoples, cultures, in all areas of learning and human experience, and in the environment.
    • the magis — to go beyond what is expected, interacting with the world with generosity, excellence, empathy, and commitment to the common good.
  • Commitment to the Catholic Intellectual Tradition or Catholic Social Thought including the themes of Catholic Social Teaching, such as the preferential option for the poor and vulnerable, solidarity with the human family, care for the environment, among others.
  • Commitment to social justice in the spirit of “the faith that does justice,” (which is a way of understanding how Jesuit institutions think of Catholic Social Teaching) and the idea of being “contemplatives in action”.
  • Affirmation of the complementarity of faith and reason, dialogue between faith and science, the search for truth.
