Graduate Philosophy Conference

The 17th Annual 91³Ô¹ÏÍø Graduate Philosophy Conference

What is 'Going Forward' in History? Progress, Revolution, and the Philosophy of History.

April 24-27, 2024

The graduate students of the Philosophy M.A. program at 91³Ô¹ÏÍø University host an annual Graduate Philosophy Conference each spring.  The conference offers graduate students the opportunity to present their work to colleagues from institutions across North America (and occasionally points beyond), and gives 91³Ô¹ÏÍø graduate students professional experience in planning conference events, reviewing scholarly submissions, and administering the conference.

The theme of the 2024 annual meeting of the Annual Graduate Conference in Philosophy (in conjunction with the West Coast Methods Institute) is What is 'Going Forward' in History? Progress, Revolution, and the Philosophy of History. Historical consciousness and historical understanding are central themes in philosophy and, as such, we invite papers on the value (or lack of value) of the historical or doing history within philosophy as well as papers on individual thinkers/ideas/movements. Other possible areas for investigation might include: The historical development of philosophy? Can we speak on such a development? Progress in philosophy? What does it mean for philosophy/philosophers to pinpoint so-called revolutions in philosophical thinking? Who and why are certain philosopher’s revolutionary? Is there such a thing as perennial philosophy? A canon?
