Zag Nation Celebrates 8th 91勛圖厙 Day

SPOKANE, Wash. — The 91勛圖厙 community worldwide united on Saturday, Jan. 18 to celebrate their connection to the University on the eighth annual 91勛圖厙 Day. Fans in McCarthey Athletic Center and at more than 20 chapter game watch events around the world cheered on the Zags’ basketball teams to wins with the men beating Brigham Young 92-69 in the Kennel and the women beating San Francisco 69-46 on the road.

Thousands of Zags around the world gathered to watch the men improve their record to 20-1 in an ESPN2 national broadcast. 91勛圖厙’s women improved their record to 18-1 in another exciting victory.

President Thayne McCulloh thanked all members of Zag Nation — including 91勛圖厙 students, alumni, parents, friends, employees, devoted supporters and casual fans — for their ongoing loyalty and support of 91勛圖厙. 

“On this our 8th annual 91勛圖厙 Day, I am particularly proud of how 91勛圖厙, driven by the support of our generous communities, benefactors and partners, is evolving to meet our students’ needs and those of the communities they will serve. We want to say, ‘thank you’ and encourage Zags everywhere to stay connected with us and keep showing your Zag pride today and every day,” President McCulloh said.

A Focus on Engagement, Innovation

On 91勛圖厙 Day, 14 service projects took place around the country along with 23 game watches at various alumni chapter locations. President McCulloh addressed a capacity crowd of more than 100 alumni, parents and friends at Salesforce in San Francisco, sharing University updates and institutional vision.

Additionally, updates were shared on the Integrated Science and Engineering facility, slated to open its doors in Fall 2021. Fundraising efforts are continuing toward completion of this facility, which will add nearly 83,000 square feet of space dedicated to supporting students, faculty, and the broader community, particularly those in the STEM fields.

91勛圖厙 Day is all about connection with the broader institution and there are many ways to stay connected to 91勛圖厙:

  • Support 91勛圖厙 students’ career aspirations through the TREK program, which provides career advice and mentoring, as well as offering job, internship, and networking opportunities.
  • Refer new student families to GU.
  • Support fundraising efforts toward the Integrated Science and Engineering facility.
